Over the next three Sundays, we’ll be looking at global mission in our morning services, and in our children’s ministry – incorporating our annual “Prayer and Self Denial” focus.

As a church community, we are involved together in the work God is doing around the world in two main ways:

  • through the work of Tranzsend (the global mission arm of the Baptist Churches of New Zealand) in various parts of Asia;
  • and through the work of those from this church who have gone out to work in different parts of the world, and whom we’ve sent and whom we support.

In both of these ways, we participate in some wonderful things that God is doing to bring freedom and life and hope to people He loves!

Over the next 3 weeks, we’ll be looking at and learning about both of these areas – the work of Tranzsend, and the work of WBC, in the world.  Our overarching theme will be “Treasures Handed Down”, and we’ll be reflecting on “the Gospel Is Treasure”, “People Are Treasure”, and “Where Is Your Treasure?”.

What’s the “Self Denial” bit?  Throughout the year, on the second Sunday of each month, we have a global mission offering, which goes to support the missionaries sent out from this church.  But once a year, we have a special “Self Denial” offering for global mission.  The idea is self-explanatory – it’s about ‘denying ourselves’ in some significant way so we can give generously to support global mission.  Next Sunday you’ll receive a special “container” to take home – something to remind you of “treasure”, and to encourage you in “denying yourself” … Our Self Denial mission offering will be received on October 1st (although if you are not here on that day, we’ll accept it any time!).  That special offering will be divided equally between Tranzsend and supporting our WBC missionaries.  (However, you can if you wish mark your offering ‘Tranzsend’, and then it will not be divided – the whole amount will go to Tranzsend.)
